Islamic Montessori, explained
What is an Islamic Montessori nursery?
An Islamic Montessori nursery teaches the Montessori method inside an Islamic daily rhythm. Children learn through hands-on, child-led work, while gratitude, Arabic and the stories of the Prophets are woven into the ordinary day rather than taught as a separate lesson.
The Montessori half
Practical life
Pouring, threading, buttoning, sweeping. Small real tasks that build concentration, coordination and independence.
Sensorial and maths
Pink towers, colour tablets, number rods and golden beads. Children understand quantity because they have held it.
Language and the wider world
Sandpaper letters and the moveable alphabet, alongside globes, nature trays and cultural artefacts.
The Islamic half
Gratitude, in the words they already use
Bismillah opens every class, Alhamdulillah meets small moments of joy, and Insha'Allah frames what is still to come. Gratitude arrives as vocabulary, not as a lesson.
Stories of the Prophets
Adam, Ibrahim, Yusuf, Yunus and Muhammad, peace be upon them all. Children act the stories out, and the moral lands through play.
Arabic and the Qur'an
Arabic sessions run through the week, with Qur'an being introduced as the nursery grows. Families who would rather their child opted out can simply say so.
All food served is halal, and the nursery follows the full EYFS framework, so your child meets every early years milestone the same way they would anywhere else.
Common questions
Is Buckingham Montessori Preston Road open to families who are not Muslim?
Yes. Preston Road is an Islamic nursery and every family is welcome. The Islamic parts of the day are open to all children, and any family who would prefer their child opted out of the Arabic sessions only has to tell us.
How is this different from an ordinary Montessori nursery?
The Montessori method is exactly the same: child-led, hands-on, and following the full EYFS framework. What changes is the rhythm around it. The day opens with Bismillah, gratitude is part of how children speak, and Arabic and the stories of the Prophets sit inside the week.
Is the food halal?
Yes. All food served at Preston Road is halal.
What ages do you take, and where are you?
We take children from birth to five years at 309 Preston Road, Harrow HA3 0QQ, a short walk from Preston Road station and close to Wembley and Kenton.
